Lon Alan Jones, born on April 13, 1947, in Jackson County, Missouri, peacefully passed away on January 11, 2025, at the age of 77. He graduated from Fort Osage High School in 1965, setting the foundation for a life dedicated to service, both in his career and personal pursuits.
In 1967, Lon enlisted in the United States Navy, where he exhibited exceptional dedication and commitment to his duties. Over the course of his military service, he was honored with several commendations, including the Fifth Good Conduct Award, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea), and the Vietnam Campaign Medal (with Device). His accolades also included the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Gallantry Cross (with Palm) and the Navy Unit Commendation, among others. Lon separated from the Navy in 1990, having left a lasting legacy of honor and service.
After his military career, Lon transitioned to working as a security guard for various companies and airlines. His work ethic and dedication to safety continued to shine brightly in this new chapter of his professional life.
Outside of his career, Lon embraced a variety of hobbies that brought joy not only to himself but to those around him. He was a lifelong bowler and an expert marksman who loved fishing. Lon found happiness in baking for his friends and neighbors and took great pride in cultivating his garden, particularly growing tomatoes and peppers. He also enjoyed making clocks, showcasing his creativity and craftsmanship.
Lon leaves behind a loving family, including his brother, Clinton Lyle Jones of Buckner, MO; his children, David Keith Jones of Buckner, MO, Lonna Aileen Jones-Hephner (Matthew Mark Hephner) of Buckner, MO, and Geoffrey Kenneth Jones (Brandy Jones) of Buckner, MO; and his cherished grandsons, Riley Jackson Hephner of St. Joseph, MO, Grant Caleb Jones of Buckner, MO, Wyatt Gregory Hephner of Buckner, MO, Blake Clinton Jones of Bradenton, FL, and Billy Milton Hephner of Buckner, MO.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Victor Paul Jones and Vivian Ruth Hamilton-Jones, and his sister, Vicki Paulette Beck.
A memorial service in honor of Lon Alan Jones will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM at Valor-Brown Funeral Service in Aspen's Chapel, located at 30000 Valor Drive, Grain Valley, Missouri, with a conclusion at 11:00 AM. Directly following, Military Honors will be held graveside in Valor Park Memorial Gardens. His family invites all who knew him to celebrate his life and remember the impact he had on their lives.
