Sheila Kay Howen, beloved homemaker and cherished family member, passed away on February 5, 2025, in Independence, Missouri. Born on January 23, 1955, in Burlington, Kansas, Sheila was the daughter of Guy and Darlene Edwards. She graduated from Grandview High School and subsequently devoted her life to raising her family and creating a loving home.
Sheila married Milton Howen on February 7, 1974, marking the start of a partnership that lasted for 45 wonderful years until his passing. Throughout her life, Sheila was admired for her dedication to her family, her joy in simple pleasures such as doing puzzles and watching birds, and her ability to bring friends together for good times filled with laughter.
Sheila is remembered lovingly by her children, Dawn Francis and Dale Howen, and her grandchildren, Damon Popplewell, Rilley Francis, Shianne Francis, and Kiley Howen. She is also survived by her mother, Darlene Perry; brother, Garry Edwards; sister, Melanie Powers; along with many nieces and nephews who brought her much joy.
Sheila now joins her father, Guy Raymond Edwards, her brother, Kim Lee Edwards, and her husband, Milton Howen, in eternal rest. The love and memories she leaves behind will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.
A memorial gathering to honor Sheila's life will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the Church of Jesus Christ (New Jerusalem Restoration Branch) located at 1527 E US Hwy 24, Independence, MO 64050. The gathering will begin at 3:00 PM and conclude at 5:00 PM. Her family invites all who knew and loved Sheila to celebrate her life during this time of remembrance.
